About

James Mayson is a novelist and screenwriter whose work blends dark comedy with emotional depth and character-driven chaos. His debut novel Fear Sum is a gut-punch of middle-aged existential dread and a nostalgic embrace of '90s grunge, love, failure, and redemption. The novel evolved from an award-winning screenplay of the same name, winning the Montreal Independent Film Festival Award and the Byron Bay International Film Festival Screenwriters Competition.

A former music and food journo-turned-scribe, James cut his teeth writing for broadsheets and magazines. James has written several screen projects including Federal Film Society (FFS!), Second sKin, Guard. Dog. and Woke. He's currently working on converting another script into his second novel, Neo-Farsi — a psychological comedy horror.

James lives in regional NSW with his two teenage daughters, two dogs and too many surfboards.
